Don Zentz is a saxophonist and educator who originated in Buffalo NY, but grew up and spent the majority of his life in Florida. Don’s professional career has been filled with a “who’s who” of jazz, with players like Dizzy Gillespie, Maria Schneider, Dave Brubeck, Ray Charles, Nancy Wilson, Doc Severnisen, the New York Voices, the Manhattan Transfer, and many many others. Alongside his incredibly lengthy list of playing accomplishments, his career is most notable for his immense success as a jazz educator throughout the state of Florida. Joining the University of North Florida jazz program as a professor under the leadership of the legendary Rich Matteson, he’s found professorship at many universities but is currently the head of jazz at the celebrated Douglas Anderson School of the Arts, taking the program to winning and placing in Downbeat Magazine four years in a row, winning the prestigious Swing Central Competition, and winning the national Basically Basie competition.
As with the Patrick Bartley Q&A, any attempts to actively sabotage the event will be met with an instant ban. Once more, we have a highly talented professional musician taking time out of his day to answer questions. Please be respectful!
Because of the deletion of Discord Stage, we will be pre-asking questions and they will be asked by Wes during the interview. Please ask in don-zentz-qna.
